The SICK L21 Series Safety Scanner is a single-beam photoelectric safety switch consisting of a sender and receiver. These units are cylindrical and have either small M18 sensors or compact M30 sensors. Small sensors have scanning ranges up to 10m and compact sensors can read up to 60m distances. All L21 series units are suitable for outdoor use and can withstand adverse ambient conditions such as cold, heat and moisture.

The test input on the sender allows direct functional tests. When used with a safety controller, the L21 can achieve performance levels of PL c in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 or Type 2 in accordance with IEC 61496.
